When someone asks me what it is my weirdest car From my collection, I always smile before answering.
Not because I don't know, but because the story behind it is one of those that seems taken from a movie.
It's not just a car. It's a relic with a mysterious past, a story that still gives me goosebumps today.
The unexpected discovery
I wasn't looking for a rare car. Actually, I wasn't even looking for anything at the time. But you know how this world works: sometimes the best cars find you, not the other way around.
I was in a classic car fair in Madrid, more to see than to buy. I was walking among the stands, admiring the impeccably restored machines, when in a secluded corner I saw something that made me stop in my tracks: a Pegasus Z-102 Saoutchik Coupé from 1954.
If you're not familiar with this model, let me put you in context: only a few units were manufactured, designed by the prestigious Saoutchik house..
This car is a true Spanish gem, an emblem of post-war automotive engineering, with a stunning design and a supercharged V8 engine capable of challenging any Ferrari of its era.
The problem was that it wasn't on display like the others. It was covered in dust, with torn upholstery and dull paint, as if it had been forgotten for decades. I asked the event organizer, and he directed me to an elderly man sitting in a camping chair next to his car.
+The story of my first classic car
An owner with an incredible story
The man, Don Enrique, was over 80 years old and had a nostalgic look in his eyes. He told me that the Pegaso had belonged to his father, a businessman from Barcelona who had bought it new in the 1950s.
For years, the car was his pride and joy, and he drove it elegantly around town. But over time, repairs became expensive, and the car was stored in a garage and gradually fell into oblivion.
— "I always wanted to restore it, but time won the battle," he told me in a melancholic voice.
His son had no interest in preserving it, and he didn't want it to end up in the hands of someone who would only buy it to resell it. He wanted it to end up in a home where someone would value it for what it was: a piece of Spanish automotive history.
The rebirth of a legend
I knew I couldn't pass up this opportunity. We agreed on a fair price, and a few weeks later, the Pegaso Z-102 arrived at my workshop. Restoring it was an odyssey. Getting original parts was a challenge, but every new acquisition was a victory.
I spent months researching, contacting experts, and bringing every detail of the car back to life. Finally, the big day arrived: the first time the engine roared again. The sound was pure, powerful, as if the car knew it was waking up from a long slumber.
A car with soul
Today, the restored Pegaso Z-102 is the jewel of my collection. Not just because of its rarity or value, but because of the history it carries.
Every time I drive it, I feel like I'm carrying a piece of the past, a tribute to Spanish engineering and the passion of those who understood that a car can be much more than a means of transportation: it can be a legacy.
And you? What's the most special car you've ever seen?
